 The Centers
of Excellence will provide communities with:
- Strategic planning assistance, leading to
comprehensive plans on community and economic
development and easier access to financial programs.
- Leadership training and development for community
residents.
- Economic and business development assistance for
rural communities less likely to develop capacity.
- Environmental and infrastructure enhancement through
technical assistance from the appropriate federal
agencies.
Rural colleges have been established to directly serve
community educational needs, reflect a long-term commitment
of both the community and the state, and have many services
already in place. They also, in many cases, provide the only
affordable entrance to higher education for many rural
residents.
