"To be the leading provider of Mexican data and information
along the U.S. - Mexico border."
During the month of July 1996, The University of
Texas-Pan American and El Instituto Nacional de Estadística
Geografía E Informática (INEGI), signed an agreement which
created INEGI's first Information Center in the United
States. As part of the agreement, the Office of Center
Operations and Community Services (CoSERVE) periodically
receives INEGI's statistical and demographic information in
the form of printed materials, magnetic disks, and maps.
The Mexican Business Information Center (MBIC), a
component of CoSERVE, was created primarily as a result of
the agreement with INEGI. MBIC has the vision of fostering
economic growth by bringing South Texas businesses and
institutions closer to Mexico. Today, public and private
institutions, researchers, and businesses from all over the
U.S. use MBIC data and services to fulfill their information
needs.
