There are various state government and professional organizations that provide information and resources on all aspects of economic development, including state incentive offerings, professional training and workshops, and tourism, to name a few.

Office of the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism
Economic Development and Tourism markets Texas and promotes the opportunities that anyone can find within our borders. Governor Rick Perry is committed to keeping Texas at the forefront of emerging markets and industries. Economic development tools including the $295 million Enterprise Fund and Texas Economic Development Bank are already at work creating jobs for Texans.

Texas Economic Development Council
The Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) is a statewide professional association dedicated to the development of economic and employment opportunities in Texas. TEDC provides information, educational and legislative services to nearly 900 members. The Council's objective is to expand existing industry, recruit new firms to the state and develop strategies that promote a positive business climate in Texas. TEDC is a non-profit corporation.  

South Texas Economic Development Corporations

Click on the links below to be redirected to the home pages for economic development corporations in the Rio Grande Valley.  Typically, the EDCs were formed as separate entities that work with the local municipal administration in its efforts to enhance its business attraction, recruitment and expansion efforts and the creation of high-paying jobs.   

Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (BEDC)
The Brownsville Economic Development Council (BEDC) is a publicly-funded organization created in 1992 to recruit and retain manufacturing firms for the Brownsville area. The 5-person BEDC staff facilitates relocations and expansions by providing the financial, job training and site location expertise firms need to be successful here. BEDC can guide a firm through the entire process of acquiring permits and zoning, identifying potential suppliers, making contacts with other businesses and meeting community leaders.

Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC)
The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) plays a key role in assisting companies to expand, while helping to attract new business and industry to Edinburg. In addition, the EEDC can arrange custom tours, schedule meetings with community leaders, arrange introductions to necessary business contracts, and serve as an advocate with state and local governmental entities.

Hidalgo Economic Development Corporation
The South Texas Border Partnership (STBP) eagerly awaits your arrival to South Texas. STBP is a coalition of key Texas border communities including The Delta Area, Edinburg, Hidalgo, McAllen,Mission, Pharr and Weslaco. We are here to help companies interested in relocating or expanding and choosing to make their new living in Hidalgo County.

McAllen Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
The McAllen Economic Development Corporation is a not-for-profit corporation under contract with the City of McAllen to create jobs for McAllen by attracting new industry and helping existing companies to expand. 

Mission Economic Development Authority (MEDA)
The Mission Economic Development Authority (MEDA) is a non-profit organization created to encourage the expansion and development of economic growth in the City of Mission and surrounding areas. Mission Economic Development Authority offers assistance to the public, local businesses and prospective businesses in site selection, area demographics, planning, workforce development, construction issues, and other items.

Pharr Economic Development Corporation (PEDC)
In 1990, the city invested considerable resources into creating the non-profit Pharr Economic Development Corporation, which has the power to finance all or part of the costs of one or more commercial, industrial, and manufacturing enterprises. One of PEDC's main purposes is to create new employment opportunities and to ensure that a viable, well-trained workforce is available to companies that locate, here.

 San Juan Economic Development Corporation (SJEDC)
The City of San Juan recognizes the necessity for innovations, growth, and competitiveness and has chosen to collaborate on building a “new economy” - one that is regional in scope, leverages technology, focuses on comparative advantages, and develops strength in partnerships and alliances.  San Juan’s goal is to improve local economic conditions so that all citizens benefit from these high performance attributes.  Historically, government, tourism, and a diverse array of small business shaped San Juan’s local economy.  Today, these traditional sectors serve as the primary source of economic opportunity and present an existing foundation for future growth.

Weslaco Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)
The Economic Development Corporation of Weslaco (EDC) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the creation of jobs through recruitment of new industry and helping existing companies relocate and/or expand. Our objective is job creation and adding wealth to the community.

San Benito Economic Development Corporation
San Benito, Texas is experiencing the benefits that come with life here in the Rio Grande Valley. San Benito is perfectly positioned to emphasize the creation of high technology jobs in order to sustain its economic growth in the future. A strong labor pool, available land and our proximity to Mexico and the International Free Trade Bridge make San Benito, Texas a very attractive location for manufacturing, distribution and retail opportunities.

South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation
The South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation, a Section 4A corporation, was formed in 1993 and operates with funding from a 1/2 cent sales tax. Its mission and functions include:  Promote South Padre Island's economic growth; Solicitation of new businesses to the area; Compile and distribute pertinent area economic information; Take advantage of economic opportunities; Provide assistance as required for prospective businesses; Prepare and distribute Relocation Packets; Place emphasis on projects that enhance South Padre Island, making it a more attractive location for visitors, permanent residents, and commercial enterprises; Focus on projects that provide long‑term benefits to the community with direct or indirect capital payback.
