The EDA University Center at The University of Texas-Pan American was established in 1997 with a grant from the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Through the University Center, UT-Pan American seeks to support the region's economic development efforts by providing technical assistance, applied research, and other related economic development assistance.

The University Center serves as a catalyst to assist distressed communities in achieving their long-term competitive economic potential through the strategic investment of resources.
